Brett Havoc always had dreams of being a professional basketball player. He had a real shot to achieve those dreams, but his attitude ruined his opportunity. During his sophomore year in college he was involved in a game where an official made what Havoc felt was a bad call in the closing seconds of the game. Havoc argued it and ended up getting called for a technical foul, which led to the other team scoring the winning point of the game. Angry and disappointed, Havoc continued to argue with the official after the game and ended up laying him out with a punch. The official declined to press charges, but he was expelled from school.

Lost and without any direction in life, he bounced around doing odd jobs, mostly construction and bouncing at various bars and nightclubs. It was at one of those nightclubs where he met a top level professional wrestler who took a liking to him and offered him a job as his bodyguard. As the two got closer, the wrestler suggested Havoc try a career in wrestling and offered to train Havoc.

His trainer/mentor pulled some strings and got him a contract with POW! so he could start paying his dues and gain in ring experience. He spent nearly 3 months on the POW! roster, but opted not to re-sign with POW! and instead join the roster of Honor!
